National Equality March Route

The National Equality March officially kicks off at 12:00 noon on October 11, 2009. The approximate distance is 2.33 miles from start to finish. Be sure and get your Metro passes as soon as you get into town, to avoid hour long lines that form at the ticket kiosks during larger demonstrations. http://www.wmata.com/

  • Gather on 15th Street at “I” (Eye) Street – we will be staging in the street and 15th between “I” Street and “M” Street will be closed for this purpose. The March will kick off from 15th and I Street, right near McPherson Square (Metro stops close by are at McPherson Square, Farragut West – both Blue and Orange Lines, and Farragut North – Red Line)
  • From there we go South on 15th to “H” Street
  • West on “H” Street to 17th Street
  • South on 17th Street to Pennsylvania Avenue (closed portion)
  • Pennsylvania Avenue (closed portion) – right past the White House – to 15th Street
  • South on 15th Street to Pennsylvania Avenue South
  • East on Pennsylvania Avenue South, all the way to the U.S. Capitol West Lawn for the National Equality March Rally.

    Metro will be conducting major trackwork over the Columbus Day weekend (10:30pm Friday, October 9 to 5am Tuesday, October 13) on the Green and Yellow Lines. The Highlights of the project are:

    • Closure of the Archives-Navy Memorial and Waterfront Metrorail stations
    • Closure of the Green/Yellow platform at L’Enfant Plaza Metrorail station
    • Closure of the Yellow Line bridge over the Potomac River
    • Re-routing of the Yellow Line trains – Huntington to Stadium-Armory
    • Implementation of three free shuttle bus routes between the closed rail stations
    • Normal service will operate on Tuesday, October 13

    People leaving the National Equality March from the U.S. Capitol and returning to Union Station and all Red Line stations should walk north on 1st St., make a right onto Louisiana Ave. to Union Station.

    People leaving the National Equality March from the U.S. Capitol and traveling to RFK Stadium should walk south on 3rd St., to the Federal Center SW Metrorail station and board the Orange Line to the New Carrollton Metrorail station or the Blue Line to the Largo Town Center Metrorail station.
