Nobody has been more anxious about getting our final march permit than the volunteers working for the National Equality March. Permitting is typically given approximately one month before the event. The permitting office only recently finished their September march permit requests and finally got to ours as they go in by order of month, not date of request submission. The march route request was agreed on last week but needed one final signature from a Commanding Officer that was out of town. Today 9/29/2009 it was signed off and we now officially have the march permit. Click to download PDF file of the march route and click to download a large map of the DC area. Thank you for your patience and we are glad this one is finally behind us.
- Gather on 15th Street at “I” (Eye) Street – we will be staging in the street and 15th between “I” Street and “M” Street will be closed for this purpose. The March will kick off from 15th and I Street, right near McPherson Square (Metro stops close by are at McPherson Square, Farragut West – both Blue and Orange Lines, and Farragut North – Red Line)
- From there we go South on 15th to “H” Street
- West on “H” Street to 17th Street
- South on 17th Street to Pennsylvania Avenue (closed portion)
- Pennsylvania Avenue (closed portion) – right past the White House – to 15th Street
- South on 15th Street to Pennsylvania Avenue South
- East on Pennsylvania Avenue South, all the way to the U.S. Capitol West Lawn for the National Equality March Rally.

The approximate distance is 2.33 miles from start to finish. Be sure and get your Metro passes as soon as you get into town, to avoid hour long lines that form at the ticket kiosks during larger demonstrations. http://www.wmata.com/

What day and time are we meeting for the march? Also, is there a schedule of events for the weekend, like who is speaking, etc…?
Can you add the bus dropoff and pickup locations (or restrictions) so we can forward to our drivers? Thanks! See you in DC!
Click to go to our schedule of events. The march begins at 12:00 and the rally begins approximately at 2:00 p.m.
Here is the info on where to park your bus! Metro stop is 3 blocks away from RFK, the stop is “Stadium-Armory” on both the orange and blue lines. The buses will be charged $30.00 a day to park.

To anyone reading this, PLEASE buy your ROUNDTRIP Metro tickets as soon as you get into town. The lines will be very long at the ticket kiosks on the day of the march, fair warning (this just happened to the Teabaggers, some of them never made it to the march because of it) xo
This is great news!
People I’m in contact with are talking about renting passenger vans/SUVs down. Any ideas as to where we can park close to the parade route?
And what Metro line would we use to get from the National Mall back to the parade start, if we do get parking near the top of the parade route?
Thanks all!
FYI: You can buy metro tickets online – might be worth considering.
In our last march on Washington, I recall us just walking around the Washngton Monument, down the mall and sitting. This route is incredible! I can’t wait to pass the White House and head down Pennsylvania Ave., shouting as we march toward the Capitol building. Thank you for this. – Marc, West Hollywood, CA
if anyone in the kansas city area is heading to the march haha is their room for 2 more? me and a friend will do whatever it takes to make it!
if their is anyone in the kansas city area or passing through the kansas city area that’s heading to the march do you have room for 2 more haha no joke me and a friend are really trying to make it!!
You should state the date on the picture: October 11, 2009
See for online puchase of cards. for maps of the metro system.
DO NOT count on parking near the event. Instead, park near a metro train station far from the event and use the train to come in.
I’ve lived in Washington for fifty years, and this is good advice.

What time does the march begin? this needs to be published.
I think I saw it actually begins at 12 noon, but not sure
The march begins at 12:00 noon on Sunday and the rally approximately 2:00 p.m.
Valuable thoughts and advices. I read your topic with great interest.
